I Love Burnsville Week - June 2-9, 2018

 

Every June, Burnsville hosts a week-long celebration of everything that makes our community a great place to live, work, and play! Hundreds of people turn out to participate in events, meet their neighbors and have lots of food and fun. Every year brings new and exciting activities as well as perennial favorites. For event updates and cancellation notices visit the City's Facebook and Twitter pages (#bvillelove).

You can find new ways to show your love by extending random acts of kindness to your neighbors and community. That's also an easy way to continue the love all year long!


2018 Calendar of Events - June 2-9, 2018

Saturday, June 2

I Love Burnsville Adventure Run 
The newest addition to the S.O.R.R. Ground Pounders Grand Prix Running Series is the I Love Burnsville Adventure Run in partnership with Buck Hill. This run/hike will bring participants up and around Buck Hill with views that will leave them breathless. The unique course features obstacles set up along the route. This adventure course is for everyone – from experienced runners to families looking for some fun.

Each participant will receive a t-shirt and gift bag. Meet fellow runners before and after the race while enjoying entertainment and refreshments.

 
Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in the following age categories: 8 and under; 9-11; 12-14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; and 70+. 
 Who:  All ages
 Where:  Buck Hill, 15400 Buck Hill Road    
 Time:  7:30 - 8:30 a.m. – Check-In
 8:30 a.m. – Race begins
 Cost:     $25 before race day (includes t-shirt)
 $30 day of race (includes t-shirt)
 Registration:  Preregister online or register on-site the morning of the race.

Appliances, Electronics, and Other Household Goods Drop-Off Event
Appliance Drop Off
Recycle refrigerators, microwaves, TVs, computers and more at the Spring Appliance & Electronics Drop-Off during I Love Burnsville Week. Checks for items with fees can be made out to Certified Recycling.

 Who:  Burnsville residents
 Where:  City of Burnsville Maintenance Center, 13713 Frontier Court      
 Time:  9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
 Cost:     FREE or small, per-item fee. Cash or check only
 






Items Accepted:
   
  • Washers and dryers (FREE); All other appliances ($5)
  • Scrap metal - ALL FLUIDS MUST BE DRAINED (FREE)
  • Computer monitors and televisions ($20-$45)
  • Computers, stereos and DVD players ($5)
  • Mattresses and box springs ($40 each)
  • Bicycles in any condition; will be refurbished and donated (FREE)

Items such as household hazardous waste, furniture, construction/demolition materials, vacuum cleaners and tires are NOT ACCEPTED.

Monday, June 4

 
Curbside Collection Begins (June 4-9)
Do you have an ugly couch sitting in your basement? Or maybe there is a broken refrigerator in your garage? Whatever the item is be sure to get it out of the house during the Curbside Collection Week. Burnsville residents can receive a discount on a curbside pick-up of bulky items, appliances and electronics.  

Contact Certified Recycling at 952-894-1448 to schedule a pickup and arrange payment. Mention the “I Love Burnsville Curbside Collection” to receive a reduced rate on items. Pickup will be on the same day as your weekly garbage collection. Call by 2 p.m. the day before to use this promotion.

YMCA Senior Open House
Experience many of the YMCA’s amenities, including the fitness equipment, pool, whirlpool and sauna as well as free fitness classes such as SilverSneakers® Classic, Water Exercise and Yoga.

Tuesday, June 5

Intro to Pickleball
Join this I Love Burnsville Week class to get a taste of Pickleball. Equipment will be provided, and experienced players will be on hand to help out beginners.

 Where:  North River Hills Park, 11501 19th Ave.        
 Time:  10 a.m. - noon
 Cost:     FREE
 Registration:  Registration is encouraged, but not required. Register online











Burnsville Police Department Open House  *NEW*

Meet police officers and other public safety personnel while touring the newly renovated Burnsville Police Department.

 Who:  All ages
 Where:  Burnsville Police Department, 100 Civic Center Parkway       
 Time:  4:30 - 7 p.m.
 Cost:     FREE








“Why I Love Burnsville” Essay Contest Winners Announced 

This contest will recognize the best 3rd grader compositions completing the sentence “I love Burnsville because…..” The US Federal Credit Union of Burnsville is offering $50 to three winners and their schools. This contest is open to all 3rd grade Burnsville residents. Winners will read their essays and be recognized at the City Council meeting. Learn more about entering the contest

Senior Fitness Party in the Park
Kick off summer with a fitness party in the park. This fun event will include a walk, fitness demonstrations, wellness education, lunch and a band to help you get your boogie on!

 Time:  9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
 Cost:    FREE with pre-registration; $5 at event (morning snacks and lunch included)

Burnsville Community Television PSA Day

Burnsville Community Television (BCTV) invites local non-profit organizations to create a FREE video public service announcement (PSA) to highlight their organization.

 Who: Non-profit organizations located within Burnsville city limits or those that directly assist residents of the City of Burnsville
 Where: Burnsville Community Television Studio
Burnsville High School, Room C214 (second floor)

 Time: 40-minute time slots available from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Walk in the Woods
Meet fellow nature enthusiasts and see what Burnsville’s hidden gem, Crystal Lake West Park, has to offer. During this casual walk, a naturalist will be on hand to answer questions about plants and animals. Expect to walk up to one mile on gravel and packed dirt trails with a few hills. Bring binoculars!

Burnsville Senior Center Ice Cream Social

Treat yourself to the Burnsville Senior Center Ice Cream Open House! Join us and cool off with a free treat at the Burnsville Senior Center in the Diamondhead Education Center.

 Time:  2 - 4 p.m.

Mountain Bike Races at Buck Hill 
This fun-filled evening includes refreshments and door prizes! 
Contact Penn Cycle's Bloomington store (952-888-1427) for more information. A little rain doesn't usually stop the races, but please call if the weather is bad.

3rd Lair
Presents the School's Out Skate Jam
3rd Lair Skatepark and Skateshop will host this public skateboarding contest. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. All participants should bring their own skateboard. Helmets, elbow pads and knee pads are encouraged. Come as a contestant or a spectator to enjoy music, great skateboarding and fun!

 Where:  Burnsville Lions Skate Park, 130th Street and Civic Center Parkway

Friday Fest & Flicks on the Bricks
Friday Fest Food TruckWrap up I Love Burnsville Week and kick off this summer’s movie and concert series with an evening of food, live entertainment, and fun! The event will include live music from the Apple Valley High School R&B Band, food trucks, and an outdoor showing of a classic movie filmed in the Twin Cities "Little Big League."

 Where:  Nicollet Commons Park, 12550 Nicollet Ave.
 Time:  6:30 - 10 p.m.; Movie begins at dusk
